This temple was Built during the 3rd century A.D. Here Lord
Shiva is known as Uma Someswara Swamy. The consort of Lord Uma Someswara Swamy
is Sri Rajarajeswari Ammavaru.
The Sivalinga at this place is established by
Lord Chandra (Moon God). Since it was built by Lord Chandra, Shivaling here
will change its colour according to Lunar aspect. At the time of Pournami (Full
Moon day) Shivaling will be in white colour and gradually loses its colour and
turns into black by Amavasya (No moon day).
Another unique thing here, is
that the temple of Goddess Annapurna was built on top of the Shiva temple, something
that cannot be seen anywhere in the country.
